PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Masters in Education Degree in Student Affairs Administration at Texas State University-San Marcos provides a comprehensive, cohort based, application oriented program strongly grounded in developmental and learning theory, celebrates diversity in faculty and student background, experience and culture, and offers practical exposure to the large array of careers in Student Affairs.  The innovative curriculum is shaped by student and practitioner participation and responsive to research and new approaches in the field of Student Affairs.  The nationally-recognized faculty actively participate in major professional associations and are committed to advancing student learning and professional and personal development. The faculty challenge each program student academically, fostering a climate of high expectations buttressed by personal and professional caring and support.

Throughout the program, students are encouraged to apply for graduate assistantships in, and not limited to, one of the following departments: Admissions, Career Services, Alcohol Drug & Resource Center, Greek Affairs, Mentoring, Multicultural Student Affairs, Campus Recreation, Housing and Residential Life, LBJ Student Center, and the Vice President for Student Affairs.

·         Faculty prepare graduate students to address the challenges and developmental changes of future generations.

·         Faculty hold prestigious positions at Texas including Vice Presidents, Assistant VP’s, Directors and Department chairs

·         After graduation, 100% of the 2008 Student Affairs Master’s cohort accepted jobs in the Student Affairs profession at various institutions including: Louisiana State University, Texas Christian University, Trinity University, University of Miami, University of Texas, and Texas State University.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Master's Application

  • GPA: 3.0 in last 60 hours of undergraduate work
  • GRE: GRE 900 (combined verbal and quantitative)
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Deadline - February 15th.  Applications may be accepted after this date for special circumstances only.

Each internships includes 150 clock hours in a Texas State Student Affairs or Academic Affairs department or at nearby colleges or universities.
