PROGRAM STATEMENT
The Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology offers master’s and doctoral  degrees in College Student Personnel.  The programs are designed to prepare professionals for positions in postsecondary settings in student affairs.  Through theory to practice, the program prepares knowledgeable professionals in the area of college student development and administration.  CSP students are required to pursue a sequence of study that permits well-balanced preparation in theory, research, and field experiences. 

PROGRAM MISSION
The philosophical orientation of the College Student Personnel program provides students with knowledge of current roles and functions of college student personnel professionals as well as a historical perspective of the field's development. The program emphasizes preparation of prospective student service professionals who are proficient in assessing and promoting growth and development of adult students in postsecondary settings.

The faculty and staff of the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology endeavor to cultivate exemplary professional practitioners and scholars in counseling, counseling psychology and college student development. The purpose of our department is to advance the knowledge base in the fields and to serve our diverse communities by drawing on our expertise in human development across the life span.

PROGRAM UNIQUENESS
The program offers a diverse set of institutional types for required internship experiences including community college, metropolitan research, and private religiously affiliated universities.  In addition, students in the CSP program are very active in the College Personnel Administrators of Kentucky (CPAK) organization with many historically serving on the executive board.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

Master's Application

  • GPA: 2.75
  • GRE: 800 Verbal & Quantitative
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Deadline: October 1 for Spring & March 1 for Summer &Fall; June 15 if spaces remain available for Fall

Doctorate Application

  • GPA: 3.5
  • GRE: Verbal & Quantitative
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Work experience: Recommended
  • Deadline: October 1 for Spring & January 15 for priority consideration for financial assistance for Fall; applications submitted until April 15 will be considered if positions remain available.
