PROGRAM STATEMENT

We strive to prepare and develop educational leaders as reflective and inquiring professionals. Our degree programs are of the highest quality as well as conveniently scheduled for busy professionals. The department focuses on knowledge generation in a collaborative learning environment.

Our goals for our students include:

Preparing students for student affairs and other higher education leadership positions in post-secondary educational institutions.

Developing an awareness of organizational and environmental characteristics in various types of post-secondary educational institutions.

Developing an understanding of students across all institutional types, student culture, and the impact of college upon undergraduate students.

Developing a greater understanding of student development theories and knowledge and skills available to the educator in post-secondary settings to foster student learning and development.

Preparing students with the appropriate skills needed to develop programs for students and assess the value of those programs.

Providing literacy in the fundamentals of educational research in higher education.

Our mission is to prepare and develop educational leaders as reflective and inquiring professionals.

Our faculty are nationally recognized leaders and researchers who are at the top of their fields. We have nationally recognized experts in student affairs leadership, the community college, continuing education in the professions, diversity issues in higher education, and higher education policy. Our faculty are active in professional associations throughout the fields of student affairs and higher education.
