Commission for Administrative Leadership
Commission for Administrative Leadership
Welcome to the website for the Commission for Administrative
Leadership! Our commission (otherwise know as “CAL”)
has a rich history within the shared governance structure of ACPA.
CAL was one of the original commissions established in 1961 with
the purpose:
• to establish an organizational framework which would involve
ACPA's members more directly in policy formation and professional
development;
• to distribute responsibility among a greater number of individuals
interested in specific areas of our profession; and
• to provide for broader based participation in the planning
and management of the Association.
Since continue to fulfill these and other purposes within ACPA.
You will notice that our logo is an umbrella, which indicates that
“administrative leadership” encompasses all areas within
higher education. Specifically, CAL studies management concerns
and emerging issues facing student affairs administrators within
the membership of our entire association. Our "Umbrella Commission"
has established task forces and interest groups which explore issues
related to a variety of topics – some of these have included
the preparation of mid-level managers, alternative funding sources
for student development programs, student volunteerism, serving
individuals with disabilities, small college/university concerns,
and the reaffirmation of the 1967 Statement of the Rights and Freedoms
of Students.
CAL continues to have strong involvement in our association through
the commitment of our diverse membership. CAL has been formally
recognized numerous times for our leadership, and many of our directorate
body members have continued within the association in other important
leadership capacities.
Within the pages of our website, you will find information about
our initiatives, our accomplishments, and our goals. Please feel
free to contact us if you wish additional information about CAL!
Sincerely,
Laura A. Bayless, PhD
