Commission for Administrative Leadership

Welcome to the Commission on Administrative (CAL) website!  This Commission was one of the original ACPA Commissions established in 1961.  As Chair, it is my hope that you will choose to sign up on-line and become a part of our Commission.    (You can do this simply by going to www.myacpa.org  and requesting to be part of this team!)

Our seven Commission Guiding Principles include:

  • Develop Administrators as educators and leaders
  • Emphasize positive mentoring and role modeling
  • Provide training and development opportunities
  • Employ theory and best practice
  • Collaborate with other commissions, and campus constituencies
  • Offer feedback to ACPA leadership
  • Recognize success within the profession and commission

As ACPA prepares to celebrate its 85th year, our 2009 Programs Leadership Team of Melinda Farmer and Matt Brown have identified five programs and one roundtable to be a part of the convention program.  The convention takes place Saturday March 28, 2009 through Wednesday April 1, 2009 and will be held at the new Gaylord complex in the Washington D.C. metro area.  Put it on your planning calendar now!

Election of class of 2012 Directorate Body Members is being led by Lee Anna Lamb.  Commission members will be able to vote on-line December 8-12, 2008.  A Chair-Elect will also elected to prepare for the 2010 Chair transition.  Additional 08-09 CAL activities include:

  • “Burning Issues” Discussion at Convention
  • Mid-Level Managers Research results and planned monograph
  • Collaboration with the Assessment and Evaluation Commission to offer “best practices” including regional workshops in preparation for accreditation visits
  • Creation of a “Book Club”
  • Nominating a “Diamond Honoree” for recognition (congrats to Steve Sutton – University of St. Thomas) and encouraging each commission member to make contributions to the ACPA Foundation (www.acpafoundation.org) to honor Steve and celebrate our 85th year!)
  • Hosting a convention social for all commission members.
  • Submission to the Fall issue of ACPA Developments of an article on “Ethical Leadership in Student Affairs.”
  • Commission meeting Sunday March 29, 2008 9 am – 4 pm (please plan to join us)

Please look over our website, consider our people, programs and leadership team.  I encourage you to join our Commission.

Feel free to contact me at kent.sampson@okstate.edu or call me at 405-744-5483 if I can respond to specific questions.

Here to serve you,
