Applying to the Directorate Board

Directorate Board Selection Process for the Commission on Admissions, Orientation, and First Year Experience (AOFYE)
In order to become a member of the Directorate Board, you must complete an application form and submit it to Jennifer Keup no later than February 9, 2007. Please note that all applications will be reviewed and approved by current Directorate Board members. If after this review the number of approved applicants exceeds the number of open seats on the Directorate Board, the selection of Directorate Board members will be put to a vote by the Commission membership. New Directorate Board members will begin their term at the 2007 ACPA/NASPA Joint Meeting in Orlando, FL (March/April, 2007).

Directorate Qualifications and Responsibilities
Qualifications

  • Must be a member of ACPA.
  • Must be a member of the Commission on Admissions, Orientation, and First Year Experience.
  • Directorate members serve for three-year terms and are not eligible for consecutive terms of service on the Directorate, unless the member is elected to the position of Commission Chair.
  • Directorate members are eligible for re-nomination and reelection only after two years have elapsed since their previous term of service ended, unless the member is elected to the position of Commission Chair.
  • Individuals may not serve simultaneously on two Directorates.

Responsibilities

  • Agree to attend and participate in all Directorate sessions scheduled for the Annual Conventions held during the term of office.
  • Participate in quarterly conference calls to address ongoing Commission business during their three-year term.
  • Participate in at least one committee or task force and assume leadership responsibility during their three-year term to chair a Commission committee or task force and/or develop convention programs or head Commission meetings as needed.
  • Respond to requests for information and feedback from the Commission Chair.
  • Vote on all issues presented to the Directorate at the Annual Convention.
  • Assist in orienting and involving new professionals to the work and goals of the Commission.
  • Attend and take an active role in the Convention Showcase.
  • Fulfill other requirements as specified by the individual Commission Chair.

Please note that Directorate Board membership connotes active leadership in the work of the Commission. While the time commitment for Commission Directorate Board members varies throughout the year, the average time commitment is 3-5 hours per month. If unable to fulfill any of the duties outlined, the Directorate member may be requested to submit his/her resignation to allow for a replacement able to actively work for the Commission and the Association.
