Course 1: Managing Multiple Priorities

Description:

Supervision is a skill that is constantly being learned no matter what level you serve in an organization. This session hopes to provide participants an opportunity to create an intentional plan on supervising paraprofessional staff. Understanding the underpinnings and research in this area will assist new professionals to examine the type of relationship they want to cultivate with their staff.

 

Course 2: Managing Conflict

Description:

This course is designed to help individuals manage conflict, focusing on how to approach and manage difficult conversations to promote a "win-win" outcome, and to design learning focused relationships.

 

Course 3: Supervision of Staff

Date:  Tuesday, July 21 - 4:00 p.m. eastern time

Description:

Course 4: Crisis Management

Description:

As a new professional, you may be asked to respond to a variety of crisis situations on your campus. Having a general knowledge of crisis management is important but it is even more critical that you develop the skills to respond to a variety of crisis in a confident manner. Understanding the components of a good crisis management plan will provide you with the tools to respond confidently. This session hopes to provide participants an opportunity to create a template for a crisis management plan for your campus that can be applicable to almost any crisis.

 

Course 5: Multicultural Competence in Higher Education


Date:  Tuesday, Aug 4 - 4:00 p.m. eastern time

Instructors:  Sara Klein, Director of Residential Education, Wagner College & Dr. Alvin Sturdivant, Director of Housing and Residence Life, Saint Louis University

Description:

This course is designed to help individuals establish a common language and understanding as it pertains to issues of multicultural competence, to explore campus climate issues as it pertains to organizational culture and will allow participants the ability to engage in personal exploration in relation to power, privilege, mattering and marginalization. Students will explore their own identity and how it influences their experiences on their campuses and others experiences of them. Students will be expected to be familiar with portions of Multicultural Competencies in Student Affairs by Pope, Reynolds and Mueller (2004) prior to the course, as assigned homework.
