Elisa Abes is an assistant professor at Miami University in the College Student Personnel program. Prior to joining the faculty at Miami, she taught at the University of South Florida. Her research focuses on lesbian identity development, especially as it relates to students’ other identity dimensions, such as race, religion, social class, and gender. She is currently exploring these relationships among multiple identities using queer theory. In 2006, Elisa was named an ACPA Emerging Scholar. Prior to becoming a professor of student affairs, Elisa was a litigation attorney. Developmental theory provides the best explanation for this significant career change.
