OVERVIEW OF INSTITUTE
Going into its eleventh year, the Donna M. Bourassa Mid-Level Management Institute is an educational program for those desiring to strengthen their skills and understand changing campus dynamics in order to advance in the profession. The Institute, named for Donna Bourassa, Ed.D., former Associate Executive Director of ACPA, is a successful professional development resource to hundreds of colleagues in the student affairs profession.
Features
- Dynamic curriculum focused on identifying the complexities facing higher education and the student affairs profession and providing the resources to affect positive change.
- Sessions dedicated to skill enhancement in the following areas:
- Campus cultures - external and internal influences
- Supervision and personnel issues;
- Multicultural competencies;
- Fiscal management and budget development;
- Assessment and strategic planning;
- Managing effective change in organizations; and
- Career mapping.
- Highly interactive learning environment using presentations, case studies, discussions, and small group work with Institute faculty.
- Continuing Education Credits are available.
- Limited to 50 participants, allowing for lots of interaction between participants and faculty.
- Listserv for participants to continue long term discussions following the Institute.
- Reception each year at the ACPA Annual Convention for all past participants.

Schedule
View the tentative schedule. The Institute begins at 4:00pm on Saturday, January 10 and concludes at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 14, 2009.
Continuing Education Credits
The Institute is eligible for CEU credits available through the National Board for Certified Counselors. ACPA is a certified NBCC provider. CEU forms will be available for MMI participants who are licensed counselors at the Institute registration desk. (Note: In accordance with NBCC policy, 1 contact hour equals 0.1 CEU credit.)
Required Information
The first step in the process is for participants to send in an application packet. All participants must submit the following information (via e-mail or fax) to the attention of Vernon A. Wall (vwall@acpa.nche.edu) at the ACPA International Office:

- Responses to the following questions:
- What do you hope to gain from MMI 2009?
- What are the biggest challenges you face as a mid-level manager?
- What are the job titles and general responsibilities of the staff members you directly supervise?
- What is the job title of your direct supervisor and their general responsibilities?
- Do you oversee a budget? How much?
- How many other mid-level managers do you work with directly?
Note: The Institute is designed for professionals who have been in the student affairs field for five (5) or more years. Departmental directors who have fewer than five years experience are also eligible to register for the Institute.
The deadline to submit these documents is November 20, 2008.
After your materials are submitted, you will be updated on the status of your application by December 5, 2008. Those selected will then be allowed to register and book hotel rooms.
Institute Scholarships
Two merit-based $240 scholarships are available. In addition to the information above, a letter from your immediate supervisor is also required. The supervisor's letter should include (a) how the participant will benefit from attending the Institute, and (b) what financial constraints exist which may prevent the participant's attendance. This information should also be sent to Vernon A. Wall in the International Office.
Deadline date to apply for a scholarship is November 20, 2008.
Attire
The attire for the Institute is business casual.
Location
The Institute will be held at the Hilton Garden Innand the University of Louisville Campus. Transportation between each location will be provided.
The city of Louisville, Kentucky is home of the world famous Kentucky Derby, Muhammad Ali, and the Louisville Slugger Museum -- rich in both history and tradition. From the Ohio River waterfront to Churchill Downs, there is a vast selection of activities and eateries that reflect the diverse and colorful community. The variety of things to do and explore make Louisville an inviting choice to host the annual Mid-Level Management Institute.

Transportation
Louisville is convenient by air and car. The Louisville International Airport is serviced by several airlines including American, Southwest, United, Continental, Delta, Northwest, and US Airways. There is a free shuttle from the Louisville International Airport to the Hilton Garden Inn. The courtesy phone for the hotel shuttle is in the baggage claim area. The shuttle is available on a 24-hour basis. Also, the average cab fare from the airport to the hotel is US $10 one way. Hotel self-parking is free. Driving directions and maps provided by Hilton Garden Inn.

About Donna M. Bourassa
The Institute is named for Donna M. Bourassa, Ed.D., former Associate Executive Director of ACPA, who created the Institute in 1999 to promote a more advanced understanding of the principles of student affairs and provide effective management tools to excel. It has been a successful professional development resource to hundreds of student affairs professionals. Donna was among the faculty for the program. She lost a valiant fight to cancer in September 2004. The ACPA Foundation established an endowed scholarship fund in Donna's name. If you wish to contribute, please visit www.myacpa.org.
Payment and Cancellation Policy
Registrations can be paid by check, VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. All fees must be prepaid. Purchase orders are not accepted. Refunds will be given for cancellations, received in writing at ACPA by December 14, 2008 less a $50 processing fee. After December 14, there are no refunds. ACPA reserves the right to charge a service fee of $20 for returned checks. A processing fee of $20 per registration will be charged for credit cards declined or to change payment methods after the initial payment is processed. Registrations are non-transferable. The Institute may be cancelled or postponed due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. In this case, the fees will be fully refunded; however, ACPA will not be responsible for other additional costs, charges or expenses, including cancellation/change charges accessed by airlines and/or travel agencies.
