The
Dr. John Hernandez Leadership Award is given to an outstanding practitioner
in the field of Student Affairs who has demonstrated leadership, citizenship
and active participation within the Latin@ Network. The Dr. John Hernandez
Leadership Award was established to recognize Dr. Hernandez's past contributions
to ACPA and the Latin@ Network during its formative years. He continues
to contribute in the creation and maintenance of the Latin@ Network
and is currently serving as the Chair for the Standing
Committee for Multicultural Affairs (CMA) for the American
College Personnel Association (ACPA). In 1997, Dr. Hernandez was
awarded a Latin@ Network Chair Emeritus Position.
JHLA Eligibility
and Criteria
Must be a practitioner
in the higher education field (includes graduate study and graduate
assistant positions).
Must be a current
and active member of the Latin@ Network.
Must attend the
2008 ACPA Convention in Atlanta, GA and must have current membership
within ACPA.
Must actively
promote the advancement of Latinas/os in higher education.
Application
Process
Latin@ Network
members, executive board members, and other individuals can nominate
any qualified higher education practitioner by filling out a nomination
form. Nominations must be sent to Erik M. Colon an e-mail by Friday, February 22, 2008.
Once nominated,
the candidate must submit an application form and two recommendation
forms. A practitioner or supervisor within higher education must submit
at least one of the two recommendation forms.
