How To Get Involved

Interested in Getting Involved?  SCW always welcomes those who want to make a difference!

There are several ways to get involved in the work of the Standing Committee for Women. SCW is currently comprised of the Elected Directorate Members, the Volunteer Leadership Team, and Appointed State and International Liaisons (SAIL). We welcome all involvement! To stay up to date on SCW activities and opportunities, please join the SCW listserv.

Volunteer Leadership Team

The Volunteer Leadership Team is comprised of women, just like you, who serve as members of a subcommittee and work on projects and tasks throughout the year that help to empower women in many different ways. There are various levels of involvement within SCW. Many can be done from the comfort of your own home or office and some will take place at the annual convention. So whether you've been in the profession 2 months, 2 years or 2 decades, we want to empower you to empower others!

To join the VLT:

  1.  Review our handout ("How to Get Involved") with information about the specific opportunities available
  2. Fill out our online survey to inform the SCW about your involvement interest.  You will be asked to list the opportunities you are interested in being involved in this survey.
  3. We will review your information and then contact you about opportunities that we hope will match your interests.
  4. Questions? Please email us at standingcommitteeforwomen@gmail.com.  Please include “Volunteer Leadership Team” in the subject line.

State and International Liaison (SAIL)

This program began in 1998 to enhance connections between SCW members in the states and the directorate body. State and International Liaisons (SAILs) have worked to give feedback to the directorate body on various issues including: balance of family and work, salary inequity, lack of female role models, and financial stability. The program has been working with the ACPA State and International Divisions to develop more collaboration with the state CPAs. SCW continues to define and develop the program towards improving outreach and communication with SCW members. See more information on our SAIL page.

To become a SAIL:

  1. Read the description of the SAIL position.
  2. Fill out our online survey to inform the SCW about your involvement interest as a SAIL. You will be asked to list the opportunities you are interested in being involved in this survey.
  3. We will review your information and then contact you about being a SAIL in your area.
  4. Questions? Please email us at standingcommitteeforwomen@gmail.com.  Please include “SAILS” in the subject line.
