One Dupont Circle, NW, Washington, D.C. 20036, USA
Metro: Dupont Circle (red line)

This symposium will help you to examine what leadership and management approach is necessary to survive and thrive in our new reality. Old answers to today’s great problems often no longer serve us and for many if not all we are in or entering into a new reality of how we articulate our professional commitment as educators and administrators. Gain further understanding about the dynamics of serving as a Senior Student Affairs Officer during a time of great change. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and collaborate with guest Presidents, Senior Business Officers, Senior Planners and Senior Assessment Officers and experienced Chief Student Affairs Officers regarding specific issues related to rapid and profound changes constituting a new post-secondary reality. Also, with fellow SSAOs define and develop your approach to surviving and thriving in your new reality.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Develop an understanding of critical changes (regarding the new reality) that our profession has experienced over the last 18 months with implications for future practice.
  • Identify best practices in response regarding this new reality.
  • Translate lessons learned to inform future SSAO practice.
  • Develop innovative ideas to foster partnerships and efficient decision-making between business, academic, planning and assessment professionals and student affairs.
  • Develop strategies for priority and agenda setting at the cabinet level.

FORMAT

  • Panel Sessions will offer participants the opportunity to hear from Symposium Panelists on the selected topic to lessons learned, challenges and strategies. These will be organized as moderated panel discussions with 2-4 panelists for 1hour. Extensive time will be allowed for Q & A and small group discussions with panelists and participants at the end of each session.
  • Group Dialogue/Discussion will allow participants the opportunity to speak with each other and/or Symposium Panelists informally about particular topics of concern or interests. Each panelist will take a smaller group of participants of 8-10 to have this dialogue. Some discussions will occur in “similar institution type” groups.
