Overview of Symposium
Do you have goals to become a Senior Student Affairs Officer? Are you currently an SAAO and looking to maintain the contemporary knowledge and competencies required for success as a senior leader in higher education? Ever wonder how to maneuver through the politics on campus and understand the appropriate flow of and sharing of information?
Are you looking for ways to develop truly collaborative partnerships with academic affairs?

This symposium will assist you to examine what leadership is necessary to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with others at the cabinet level. Gain further understanding about the dynamics of serving on the President’s cabinet and participating in decisions about the strategic direction of a college or university. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with guest presidents, provosts and Academic Vice Presidents and seasoned student affairs officers in discussion about the specific issues related to developing a student centered learning environment. Also, create more vision for your professional future through personal consultation with a guest panelist.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify strategies to develop and/or improve relationships with cabinet-level colleagues.
  • Develop innovative ideas to foster partnerships and efficient decision-making between academic affairs and student affairs.
  • Explore ways to manage organizational change.
  • Develop enhanced understanding about the process for developing priorities and how agenda setting occurs at the cabinet level.
