The SCMM awards committee gives four awards each year. The four awards are the Harry Canon Outstanding Professional, the Outstanding Men's Program, the SCMM Outstanding Research Award, and the SCMM Outstanding Graduate/New Professional Award. The screening process begins in the fall of each year and concludes in November. The recipients of these awards are announced at the Awards Reception at the ACPA Convention.

Nomination Guidelines:

All nominations should include the following:

  • Award category for which the individual is being nominated
  • Nominee’s name, title, address, phone number, e-mail address, institution, and ACPA membership status (if applicable).
  • Nominator’s name, title, address, phone number, e-mail address, and institution.
  • A 500-1000 word statement detailing why the nominee is regarded as exceptional within the category of nomination.
  • Resumes and other supplemental material will not be accepted.

Award Descriptions

Harry Canon Outstanding Professional 

This award is given to a professional who has contributed significantly to the developmental theory or practice of men's development within the context of higher education. The individual must have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the promotion of men's development.  The nominee must be a current member of ACPA.

Outstanding Men's Program 

This award is given to a program or intervention at an institution of higher education that has had a positive impact on men's development. 

SCMM Outstanding Research Award 

This award is given to an individual who has completed exceptional journal quality research regarding men's development.  The nominee must be a current member of ACPA to be considered.

SCMM Outstanding Graduate/New Professional Award 

This award is given to a current graduate student or post graduate new professional (working in field between 1-3 years) who has shown interest in and contributed to men's development within the context of higher education.
