Term of internship: October 2023 – March 2025
Location: primarily virtual, with potential travel to conference/convention/in person Task Force meetings

In 2010, ACPA and NASPA jointly launched the Professional Competencies for Student Affairs Educators, and then in 2014-2015, a second task force convened to review and update the initial set of competencies. It is now time to review and update the professional competency areas again, and ACPA and NASPA are convening another joint task force that will begin work in September 2023 with a goal of presenting revised and updated competencies to all members at the ACPA Convention/NASPA Conferences in spring 2025.

The 2023-2025 task force will consist of 6 members from each association, and will be led by Drs. Kathy Guthrie and WIllie Banks.

The Professional Competencies Task Force Intern performs a variety of routine tasks, including response to email and voice communications from members and colleagues, word processing and editing of competencies, assisting with focus groups and managing feedback loops from members, leaders, and others; and preparation of the competencies for publication.

Duties: The Professional Competencies Task Force Intern will assist with a variety of duties including but not limited to:

  • Developing and distributing agendas for Task Force meetings and recording minutes of each meeting.
  • Assisting with the Focus Group process for the task force in Fall 2023/Spring 2024 including note taking, transcription, and coding of data for feedback and incorporation into revision cycles for individual competencies.
  • Assisting Task Force members with incorporating feedback into competency revisions and suggesting edits across the competency areas.
  • Preparing drafts of publications for front matter, and associated contextual pieces that will accompany the professional competencies when published.
  • Work closely with Task Force Co-Chairs (Dr. Kathy Guthrie and Dr. Willie Banks) to guide the administrative and overall processes of the Task Force members.
