PROGRAM STATEMENT

The strength of Arizona’s master’s program in Higher Education is its blend of theory and practice.  During this two-year, 36 credit program, students will acquire a broad understanding of higher education and develop a strong foundation in student affairs upon which they can ground their professional practice, and if they later choose, their doctoral work. Required courses explore systemic dynamics in higher education, student development, professional practice, and research methods.  Students are required to complete at least one internship in student affairs, and in addition to their academic advisors, students are assigned a professional advisor to provide insight to working in student affairs.  While not required, most students are employed in graduate assistantships in student affairs that offer tuition remission.  Our program coordinates a campus visit that offers students opportunities to interview for open positions.
